Sonya Sigilai received her Bachelor of Law degree from Keele University, United Kingdom in 2017. She has since completed the Advocates Training Program at the Kenya School of Law and gained admission to the bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in December of 2022.

She is on course to becoming a Master of Laws with specialization in International Trade and Investment Law from the World Trade Institute in Switzerland. Sonya has experience in both private practice and in the public sector, and has set herself apart as an International Lawyer from the onset of her career. She is a skilful researcher and has played an active role in the first free trade negotiation of a Sub-Saharan country with the United States.

Her expertise in Trade Law ranges from dispute settlement to areas relating to societal values. Since 2020, Sonya has been an Associate Arbitrator specializing in International and Commercial Investment Arbitration. She has nurtured her communication and critical thinking skills through participating in Moot Court, the Model WTO, Training in Advocacy and through Pro Bono work.

Since joining LJA Associates LLP, Ms. Sigilai has integrated into the Dispute Resolution Department and is active in the Corporate and Commercial, and Conveyancing and Real Estate Departments.

During her free time, she enjoys swimming and playing tennis and cultivating her inquisitive mind through creative outlets. She is a native speaker of English and Swahili languages and is intermediate in French and Arabic languages.
